Our aim is to create a learning environment and build relationships which support, enhance and invite a child’s curiosity and confidence to flourish regardless of backgrounds, circumstances or need.

We work collaboratively with parents and carers to encourage independent, enthusiastic learners who thrive and reach their full potential. It is our intent that children who enter our EYFS begin their lifelong learning journey by developing physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally whilst also embedding a positive attitude to school and a love of learning.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. This is made up of four overriding principles:
  1. Unique Child – We follow pupils' interests to develop and design a curriculum each year that is appropriate for the current cohort. We ensure that pupils' interests are represented within our environment and develop a sense of importance through our Maldon values.
  2. Positive Relationships – staff ensure they spend quality time with individuals and groups of pupils to build positive relationships within the school. This ensures that pupils feel valued, supported and safe.
  3. Enabling Environments – Our EYFS environment changes based on pupils interests and needs, this ensure that the provision available continues the learning and allows all pupils to progress quickly.
  4. Learning and Development – Children develop and learn in different ways. Our play based approach allows all pupils to access the learning regardless of any individual needs, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

In baseline assessments we recognise that early learning skills range within our pupils, our curriculum is developed to meet these needs and ensure all staff have high expectations of all pupils, enabling them to progress into year 1 at age related expectations.
