Humanities
Intent
Our humanities curriculum aims to nurture a love and curiosity of the world around us as well as exploring and respecting the different experiences, lives and beliefs of the people within our world, from the past as well as the present.
We aim to provide a range of learning opportunities that will enable the children to develop both their historical understanding, geographical knowledge and skills and develop their knowledge and understanding of the religions and beliefs that form part of contemporary society.
Implementation
Teachers use the Pearson Scheme of work for planning and teaching Geography and History. This contains whole-school overviews, mid-term weekly planning and resources.
Teachers use the Jigsaw RE Scheme aligned with the Essex Agreed Syllabus for the planning and teaching of RE. This contains whole-school overviews, mid-term weekly planning and resources.
Each topic area within the subjects shows previous learning and learning that will progress throughout the school on the related Yearly Progression document for each subject.
Impact
Our humanities curriculum is high quality, well thought out and demonstrates progression. The children will be assessed half-termly allowing teachers to identify pupils that exceed expectations and pupils who need extra support or pre-teaching.
We measure impact through:
- Staff confidence questionnaires
- Pupil assessments
- Pupil voice questionnaires
- Pupil engagement
