PE
Intent
We believe that Physical Education (PE), experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is essential to ensure children attain optimum physical and emotional development and good health. We deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed. We teach children skills to develop their understanding of working cooperatively and collaboratively. This is achieved by teaching children skills to work effectively as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity of play which will help life long values.
Implementation
At Maldon Primary School we provide challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting activities including; invasion games, dance, gymnastics and field games. We ensure we have a progressive curriculum by using Jasmine - the real PE platform. Pupils participate in two high quality PE lessons each week, covering two sporting disciplines every half term. One is always taught by a qualified Sports Coach. We also encourage children to participate in extracurricular activities which focus on physical and mental wellbeing. The children in years 5 and 6 have access to swimming lessons to ensure they leave primary school meeting the National Curriculum guidelines.
Impact
A sustained commitment is established to improve the quality of existing PE teaching through continuing professional development in PE, so that all pupils improve their health, skills and physical literacy, and have exposure to a broader range of activities. An evidenced increase in staff confidence and positive perception has led to an increase in quality of learning and teaching of PE. We feel this helps to motivate children's participation in a variety of sports through quality teaching that is engaging and fun. Our end goal is for children to grow up to live happy and healthy lives utilising the skills and knowledge acquired through PE.
We measure impact through:
- Staff confidence questionnaires
- Pupil assessment
- Pupil voice questionnaires
- Pupil engagement
